Creativity Is An Act of Bravery

This past weekend, I watched “I Am: Celine Dion”, and I was so profoundly touched that I was inspired to write a blog after an entire year without writing! I get so caught up in the “hustle” culture that I haven’t had time to stop and smell the roses. Fortunately, this past Saturday, a brilliant woman made me realize that we can’t take ourselves for granted.

In Celine Dion's documentary, she invites you into an intimate journey that exemplifies the essence of vulnerability, courage, and resilience. Celine, a global superstar, peels back the layers of her public persona to reveal the raw, unfiltered reality of her life. One of the most profoundly moving and raw moments in Dion's documentary is the scene where she experiences a seizure. Just a woman, breaking and breathing in real time. It is terrifying. It is human. And it is one of the bravest things I’ve ever witnessed. Because to let yourself be seen in a moment of pain is to honor your wholeness, not just the polished parts, but the trembling, aching ones too.

We live in a culture that teaches us to hide our mistakes, our mess, our pain. But true creativity, the kind that heals and connects, demands visibility. When you make something, whether it’s a blog, a song, a meal, or a pair of earrings, you’re saying: Here I am. This is me. And that, my friend, takes courage.

It takes courage to be the one who doesn't numb out.
It takes courage to be the one who tells the truth out loud.
It takes courage to create in a world that rewards perfection and shames imperfection.

But as I have learned, and as I remember through my hands every time I bead, real power is not in pretending to be flawless. It’s in honoring your truth, and with that comes, loving those parts of you that you work so hard to hide or disguise.

So if your art is asking to be born, if your truth is rumbling inside you, don’t wait for it to be perfect. Don’t strive for perfection, strive for excellence.  Don’t wait to feel ready. Create anyway. Let your imperfection be sacred. Let your tenderness be loud. Let your truth be enough.

Because to create is to risk being seen.
And to be seen, truly seen, is the bravest thing we can do.

Live bravely.

With love,
Alejandra
