In October 2018 I suffered my very first heart break. I had been with my partner for about 5 years and had plans for marriage and building a family. I had created all these plans in my head and one morning they were all gone. Vanished. Disappeared. It felt like the death of a dream. Of course, I felt devastated, confused, angry, and sometimes in denial. I went through all the stages of grief. This was my first encounter with pain and I couldn’t recognize myself because I was depressed. I felt like I was falling into this black hole and I kept going deeper and deeper. So what did I do? I booked a plane ticket to Barcelona. My plan was to get away in hopes that Barcelona would heal my heart in three months.
Fast forward 11 months, I’m still in Europe. First of all, let me say that one of the main reasons I created my business was to have the freedom to travel. Traveling has been my childhood dream since I can remember and I couldn’t believe it was happening. As I jumped from country to country my heart kept getting better and better until finally one day, I felt like my old self again.
So what did I Iearn? So many things but the most important lesson is: follow your heart. I know it sounds so cliche but your heart is your GPS to make all your dreams come true. If you don’t listen to your heart, you’re going to break your own heart like I did and like so many other people do. If you don’t feel happy and most importantly, at peace, it’s because you’re going the wrong way and it’s time to stop and reconsider your life choices. Don’t be afraid because life does get better, it just takes a little bit of audacity, but then a whole new world will open up to you.
