Why I'm a Feminist
Share
In the beginning stages of creating my business I wanted it to really reflect me. And what am I? I am a lot of things but one of my main characteristics is the love and admiration I have for women. Ever since I was a kid, women have always captivated me (especially my mother) because they're truly the embodiment of unconditional love, intelligence, patience, sacrifice, hard-work, and so many other wonderful things that if I named them all, this short writing would turn into a book. So, I was trying to find a way to integrate my admiration for women into my business and decided that I was going to name my pieces after kick-ass, bold, and inspirational women from all over the world.
Listening to Vandana Shiva, Sylvia Earle, Jane Goodall, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and other magnificent women on Youtube inspire me to be the best version of myself. They inspire me to stay true to myself and that as women, we have so much power to create a better world. They reinforce my belief that one does have the power to change the world and that the impossible is possible.
Because of women like Ana Castillo, Michelle Alexander, Las Patronas, and of course, my mother, Yazmin Castillo, I am the woman I am today and not calling myself a feminist would be a slap on the face to all them who kick-ass on a daily basis. So what better way to pay a tribute to them then by using my business as a platform to bring awareness to those who are not familiar with feminism.
Feminism is about the social and economic equality for both men and women and that is why am I am feminist. It's not about hating men or burning bras, feminism is about justice and equality between both sexes, nothing less, nothing more. If you're not a feminist, become one now, there's no better time!
