Creativity Is An Act of Bravery

This past weekend I watched “I Am: Celine Dion” and I was so profoundly touched that I was inspired to write a blog after an entire year without writing! I get so caught up in the “hustle” culture that I haven’t had time to stop and smell the roses. Fortunately, this past Saturday a brilliant woman made me realize that we can’t take ourselves for granted.

In Celine Dion's documentary, she invites you into an intimate journey that exemplifies the essence of vulnerability, courage, and resilience. Celine, a global superstar, peels back the layers of her public persona to reveal the raw, unfiltered reality of her life. One of the most profoundly moving and raw moments in Dion's documentary is the scene where she experiences a seizure. This moment is not just a glimpse into the physical challenges she faces but also a powerful illustration of vulnerability in its purest form. In front of the camera, Dion allows herself to be seen in a moment of profound fragility. It's in this moment of honesty and pain that I saw the true power of vulnerability – the ability to connect deeply with others through our shared human experiences.

Dion’s story is one of immense courage. It's a celebration of the human spirit and a powerful example of how embracing vulnerability can lead to a life of authenticity and wholeheartedness. Personally, I have a hard time being vulnerable, I hate the thought of anyone thinking of me as "weak" because for so long, I confused vulnerability with weakness. But as I get older, I understand that there's a difference and there is power in being vulnerable because it helps create strong connections with people and that is something we urgently need in these chaotic times.

Dion's passion and dedication to her craft is immeasurable. Her commitment to her artistry is inspiring, reminding us that creativity is an act of bravery,  because it requires us to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees.

I hope one day I am as brave as Celine Dion. It will take time but I believe we are all on this journey together to inspire each other to live bravely.

I dedicate this piece to all the fierce women, uprising women, the warrior women! Tell your stories because you never know whose life you can change.

Love Always,

Alejandra G.
