Seed Bead Earrings Tutorial for Beginners: Everything I Wish I Had When I Started

Eight years ago, I bought a bunch of seed beads (the wrong ones), the wrong thread that kept breaking, and brass findings that were not really brass (they were cheap alloy). I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but I knew I just wanted to start.

Back in 2018, there were no kits and barely any videos on YouTube. I was able to find a few that helped me, but they didn't talk about the type of beads, the size, and there was definitely no one sharing their sourcing lists or their mistakes. I had a huge pile of defective beads that were all a waste of money, so I had no other choice than to figure out everything on my own.

It worked. But it did not have to take that long!

Why I Never Taught Anyone

When Moon & Milk started growing, the DMs started coming.

How do you make these? What beads do you use? Where do you buy your supplies? Do you teach?

At first I answered every single one. Then there were too many. Then I started letting them pile up, ignoring them, and feeling guilty.

I want to be honest about that because it still bothers me.

My entire brand is centered on women’s empowerment. Every earring I make is named after a woman who changed the world without recognition. Most of my artisans are women. My suppliers are women. Women's financial independence is not just something I believe in, it is something I have built my entire life around.

And I was ignoring women who were asking me for help. That did not sit right, so I knew what I had to do.

What I Built So You Do Not Have to Start the Way I Did

I created the tutorials I wish had existed when I began my Moon & Milk adventure.

A step-by-step video that walks you through everything. My complete sourcing list, every vendor I trust, built from years of testing so you do not waste money on the wrong materials as I did. And if you want to skip the supply hunting entirely, a full beading kit with everything you need to complete your first pair from scratch.

It's Not Only a Hobby for Me

I do want to say something that goes beyond the craft itself because I feel it’s important.

Beading has given me the adventurous life I dreamed of since I was a kid.  Moon & Milk has taken me to countries I never imagined visiting when I was sitting in that LSAT exam room, realizing that life at a courthouse was just for me.

Without Moon & Milk,  I would not have my freedom. I would not have met my fiancé. I would not have discovered that creativity is a muscle, and that the more you use it, the more it grows, and the more it demands to be used.

I think about that a lot when I think about why teaching matters.

We are living in the age of AI. Everything is being automated, generated, replicated. And in the middle of all of that, sitting down with a needle and a thread and a pile of beads and making something by hand is simply irreplaceable. That connection between your mind and your hands, manifesting a vision into reality in five or six hours, is something no Zuckerberg moron can replicate.

These crafts cannot disappear. The knowledge has to be passed on. Not just because it is beautiful, because it is, but because it is human. Because it connects us to something real in a world that feels so chaotic and disconnected.
